I was born and raised in central Minnesota. In 2006, I graduated from Willmar Senior High School and then went on to attend the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Right from the beginning I knew that I wanted to pursue my passion for teaching and quickly decided to major in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I graduated from St. Ben's in the spring of 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.
During my time at St. Ben's, I had the privilege to student teach at two different sites in the St. Cloud Public School District. My first placement was in a 3rd grade classroom at Oak Creek Community School. Here I developed lessons, wrote units, and took on the responsibilities of a classroom teacher.
My second placement was in a 6th grade class at Westwood Elementary School. Here, I taught language arts, spelling, writing, history, and math.
After graduating from the College of Saint Benedict, I was hired to teach a combined third and fourth grade class at St. Peter's Catholic School in Canby, Minnesota. I loved the community and culture of the school. I had ten fourth graders and five third graders.
The next year I moved to Milwuakee and was hired as a support teacher for Saint Anthony Catholic School. I did long term positions that included K4 for three months, 1st grade for four months, and 8th grade for one month. I really appreciated the opportunities to work with a variety of different teachers at different levels.
The following year, I became a 2nd grade classroom teacher at the same school. Data driven lessons, interventions, and enrichments became a big focus. I wanted to make sure that my students were well-rounded in the material that we were covering and could begin applying higher order thinking skills.
In the summer of 2013 my husband and I moved to South Bend, Indiana. I am thrilled to continue my teaching journey and excited to serve the youth of the area.
